Restrictions on the Import of Livestock into Thailand

The Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development has issued multiple notices regarding restrictions on the importation and transit of livestock into Thailand. The notifications were published in the Ministerial Information Bulletin No. 10858 on the 14th of October 2022. The notification is the result of the risk of illness and diseases being spread through the transportation of livestock. The purpose of the notification is to prevent the spread of said diseases into Thailand to protect the people’s health and minimize impacts on domestic poultry breeding.

Restrictions on the transit of poultries or carcasses from the Republic of South Africa

The postponement of importation or transit of poultries or carcasses thereof from the Republic of South Africa B.E. 2565 (2022) was dated the 5th of July 2022. It was published in the Government Gazette on 11th July 2022 and came into effect ninety days from 16th July 2022. The restriction was initially meant to cease on the 13th of October, 2022. However, another notice has been issued due to the continued risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza: HPAI, of Type H5N1 in the localities of the Republic of South Africa. This Notice was enforced for a period of ninety days from the 14th of October 2022 and states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of poultries (namely, birds, chickens, ducks, geese, swans, semen for breeding, eggs for breeding, and carcasses) from the Republic of South Africa is temporarily banned.

Restrictions on the transit of poultries or carcasses from the Republic of Indonesia

The postponement of importation or transit of poultries or carcasses thereof from the Republic of Indonesia B.E. 2565 (2022) was dated the 5th of July 2022. It was published in the Government Gazette on 11th July 2022 and came into effect ninety days from 16th July 2022. The restriction was initially meant to cease on the 13th of October 2022. However, due to the continued risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza: HPAI, of Type H5N1 in the localities of the Republic of Indonesia, another notice has been issued. This Notice was enforced for ninety days from 14th October 2022 and states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of poultries (namely, birds, chickens, ducks, geese, swans, semen for breeding, eggs for breeding, and carcasses) from the Republic of Indonesia is temporarily banned.

The postponement of importation or transit of poultries or carcasses thereof from the Republic of Vietnam B.E. 2565 (2022) was dated the 5th of July 2022. It was published in the Government Gazette on 11th July 2022 and came into effect ninety days from 16th July 2022. The restriction was initially meant to cease on the 13th of October 2022. However, due to the continued risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza: HPAI, of Type H5N1 in the localities of the Republic of Vietnam, another notice has been issued. This Notice was enforced for a period of ninety days from 14th October 2022 and states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of poultries (namely, birds, chickens, ducks, geese, swans, semen for breeding, eggs for breeding, and carcasses) from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is temporarily banned.

Restrictions on the transit of cows, buffaloes, or carcasses from the Kingdom of Cambodia

The postponement of importation or transit of cows, buffaloes, or carcasses thereof from the Kingdom of Cambodia B.E. 2565 (2022) was dated the 5th of July 2022. It was published in the Government Gazette on 11th May 2022 and came into effect ninety days from 28th July 2022. The restriction was initially meant to cease on the 25th of October 2022. However, due to the continued risk of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cows and buffaloes in the localities of the Kingdom of Cambodia, another notice has been issued. This Notice was enforced for ninety days from 26th October 2022 and states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of cows, buffaloes, or carcasses from Cambodia is temporarily banned.

Restrictions on the transit of pigs, boars, or carcasses from the Republic of Italy 

The postponement of importation or transit of pigs, boars, or carcasses thereof from the Republic of Italy B.E. 2565 (2022) was dated the 5th of July 2022. It was published in the Government Gazette on 31st July 2022 and came into effect ninety days from 31st July 2022. The restriction was initially meant to cease on the 28th of October 2022. However, due to the continued risk of African Swine Fever (AFS) in the localities of the Republic of Italy, another notice has been issued. This Notice was enforced for a period of ninety days from the 28th of October 2022 and states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of pigs, boars, or carcasses from the Republic of Italy is temporarily banned.

Restrictions on the transit of poultries or carcasses from the Kingdom of Belgium

It was published in the Government Gazette on 21st October 2022 and came into effect ninety days from that date. The notice has been issued due to the continued risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza: HPAI, of Type H5N1 in the localities of the Kingdom of Belgium. This Notice states that, by virtue of Section 6, paragraph one, and Section 33 of the Animal Epidemic Act B.E. 2558 (2015), the importation or transit into the Kingdom of poultries (namely, birds, chickens, ducks, geese, swans, semen for breeding, eggs for breeding, and carcasses) from the Kingdom of Belgium is temporarily banned.
